Healthcare marketplace redesign

The client is a healthcare marketplace startup that connects locum doctors with hospitals without an agency in between. It is not named on this site. The engagement came through Startup Link, the University of Melbourne's student-run startup programme, where Bruno Jaamaa is Technical Officer, Projects. It was unpaid and was staffed by a team of six students, which he led informally; teammates owned and presented their own sections of the review. It began in August 2026, and the team presented its review in early September.

The startup's product runs on three surfaces: a marketing site, an operations portal and an iOS app. The brief was to review them against each other and bring them together.

Jaamaa reviewed the marketing site, the operations portal and the iOS app and redesigned them as one system. He built the landing page and its design elements, built a design system for the redesign, and wrote design guidelines based on UX principles. He wrote the code of the prototype, and worked directly with both co-founders and their engineering lead. Every screen on this page is that prototype, running on his own address with invented data, or a page of the team's review. None of them is the company's live product.

One finding carries the review. In the existing portal, posting one shift took five screens for six required fields. In the redesign it is one screen.

About a week after the presentation, the founder published a new brand system based on the team's recommendation and relaunched the company's site.

Two follow-on projects came out of it. Jaamaa designed hospital onboarding dashboards for eight types of facility, which were proposed to the company. He has also been working with the company's engineering lead to upgrade and automate its existing CRM. He did not build the CRM: it was the company's own system before the engagement and it remains theirs. He co-leads that admin portal and CRM project with a teammate.

The review was written so that it could be argued with line by line: each finding is tied to a surface, a severity and a fix. Colour, type and spacing were declared once as tokens and carried through the design system and its guidelines. The redesign was built far enough to click, in React and Tailwind on the web and SwiftUI for the app, so that it could be compared with the live product and handed to whoever builds next.
